MISSION

Developing and integrating Earth Observation (EO) methodologies, both in-situ and remote sensing, for environmental analysis and modelling is IMAA’s scientific mission. The synergistic and multidisciplinary approach allows us to tackle innovatively the analysis of a broad spectrum of scientific challenges in the environmental domain and it aligns with the EU’s political priorities, like the Green Deal and digital future. This approach builds on a suitable development of innovative data interoperability and data sharing techniques in the environmental sector in line with the Open Science Strategy promoted by the EU Commission.

HISTORY

The Institute of Methodologies for Environmental Analysis (IMAA) was established in the frame of the CNR reform process (Decree no. 015446 of 14.01.2000 published in the Ordinary Supplement to the Official Journal of the Italian Republic no. 24 of 31.01.2000) by the merger of three pre-existing institutes: the Institute of Advanced Environmental Analysis Methodologies (IMAAA); the Clay Research Institute (IRA) and the Institute of Horticulture and Industrial Crops (IOCI).
IMAA is currently the only CNR Institute headquartered in the Basilicata Region (Potenza Research Area).
