CNR-IMAA

Trace gases remote sensing

The laboratory for atmospheric measurements of trace gases with remote sensing techniques of the CNR-IMAA is equipped with a high resolution Fourier transform infrared spectrometer (FTIR) for the retrieval of concentration profiles and of the total/partial columnar contents of atmospheric trace gases of climatic interest (e.g.: O3, CH4, NO2,…), starting from the measurements of solar radiation absorption spectra. The methodologies and operative procedures adopted, both for the measurements and for the analysis and quality control of the data, will allow to provide the national and international scientific community with high quality and long-term products aimed both at climatological studies, through trends calculation of trace gases, and to improve the understanding of the related chemical and transport processes in the troposphere and stratosphere. This laboratory provides measurements within the pan-European research infrastructure ACTRIS (Aerosol, Clouds and Trace Gases Research Infrastructure, https://www.actris.eu/) for remote sensing of trace gases.
